The center remains white, like a breath in the middle of the design. This piece is our tribute to the iconic "Bogolan" fabric.

🟫 The history of the pattern

Bogolan is a traditional Malian cotton fabric, dyed with fermented mud, whose geometric signs tell ancestral stories. Each region has its own style, from the Dogon country to Ségou.

Bogolan (Mali, Bambara language): also called bògòlanfini.

✨ What the pattern tells

Bogolan has become a symbol of Malian cultural identity. A custom says that it protects by absorbing the dangerous forces released during a birth. It can thus be given on the occasion of a birth, echoing this custom.

Our reinterpretation

We take the Bogolan signs in a ring on the edge of the round plate, in black on a white background, with a center left white. The zigzags, triangles, and small geometric butterflies are drawn as if with mud on a light canvas, then transferred to porcelain. This plate is decorated to order in our workshop in Alfortville, with the pattern prepared, applied, and glazed by hand before firing.

At your table

For lunch in soft light, with a raw linen tablecloth and a few guests, the plate creates a graphic setting that interacts with the material. Giving this plate on the occasion of a birth is to pass on a gesture inspired by the protective symbolism of Bogolan.

Characteristics

Contents: 1 round plate, large or dessert, your choice.

Colors: black and white.

Material: porcelain.

Dimensions: large plate: Ø 27 cm, height 3.1 cm.

Dimensions: dessert plate: Ø 21 cm, height 2.5 cm.

Personalization: colors, first name, date, or short message upon request; composition of your choice.

In case of breakage: individual replacement possible (same pattern, same dimensions), as long as the shape remains in the catalog.

In the same pattern: set of 2 glasses, glass carafe, set of 12 square plates, box of 6 round plates, box of 6 square plates, coffee cup, speckled mug.

Write to us to personalize your plate and bring the memory of Bogolan to your table.

Our plates have been used every day by families for over two years and go through the dishwasher and microwave daily: to date, we have noticed no visible wear of the decoration, including contact with cutlery.

📏 The dimensions of our round plates

🎁 As a gift: the prestige box

For a wedding, a birthday, or a gift that leaves a lasting impression, your set can be presented in our prestige box: a deep green rigid box with a magnetic closure, golden KEMI HOME ART logo, yellow interior, and foam padding that holds each piece. Optional, upon request: €10 supplement. Simply specify it in your order or write to us.

Product information – Manufacturer: KEMI HOME ART SAS, 9 rue Pierre Leroux, 94140 Alfortville, France – edo@kemiha.fr.
