We pay tribute to the iconic “Gramophone” fabric with this reinterpretation named “Gamaphone,” the way “gramophone” is pronounced in Fon (Benin), where the R is not pronounced. The pattern can be seen as another way of bringing music to the table.

🎶 One pattern, a thousand names

Discs of small dots arranged in concentric circles, like the grooves of a vinyl record: this pagne evokes the gramophone, the king of parties in days gone by. In the world of wax fabric, it is the market women and those who wear the fabrics who give the patterns their names.

Gamaphone (Benin, Fon): the record player, the gramophone; its concentric circles evoke the grooves of a disc.

✨ What the pattern tells

This pattern speaks of music, parties, and the atmosphere of evenings when records are playing. Its circles seem to vibrate and give the table a joyful rhythm. It accompanies moments of music and celebration, when the atmosphere is in full swing and the circles seem to vibrate.

Our reinterpretation

On these round plates, the fabric design becomes a wide ring of brown, rust, and ochre dot patterns with a burgundy center, framing the white middle; at the bottom of the soup plates, a large concentric disc continues the pattern. The six plates are presented in a 31 × 31 × 10 cm packaging box. Each piece is decorated to order in our Alfortville workshop, with the pattern prepared, applied, and hand-glazed before firing.

At your table

Imagine a table lit by the soft evening light, a simple tablecloth, and guests talking and laughing while music plays in the background.
