ensemble-12-assiettes-carrees-bogolan
Set of 12 square plates, Bogolan pattern

A Malian cotton fabric whose geometric signs tell ancestral stories.

A vertical band runs across each plate: coral red, mustard yellow, black and grey stripes, punctuated by small white geometric signs, like a woven pagne. The square shape structures the design and lets the porcelain breathe. This piece is our tribute to the iconic "Bogolan" fabric.

🫫 The history of the pattern

Bogolan is a traditional Malian cotton fabric, dyed with fermented mud, whose geometric signs tell ancestral stories.

Bogolan (Mali, Bambara): also called bògòlanfini.

✨ What the pattern tells

Bogolan has become a symbol of Malian cultural identity. A custom says that it protects by absorbing the dangerous forces released during a birth. This story gives it a special place in a birth gift or a meaningful present.

Our reinterpretation

On these plates, the vertical band takes up the rhythm of the fabric: the coral red, mustard yellow, black and grey stripes cross the plate and the small white signs punctuate the design. The plates are decorated to order in our workshop in Alfortville: the pattern is prepared, then applied and glazed by hand before firing. The set is presented in 2 boxes of 31 × 31 × 10 cm.

At your table

In the soft light of a dinner, on a natural linen tablecloth, the vertical band brings a graphic rhythm to the table and brings guests together around a pattern that is as much to look at as it is to share. For a birth gift or a meaningful present, Bogolan evokes Malian cultural identity and the custom related to birth.

Characteristics

Contents: set of 12 square plates, i.e. 6 large plates and 6 dessert plates.

Colors: coral red, mustard yellow, black, grey, white.

Material: porcelain.

Dimensions, large plate: 26.7 × 26.7 cm, height 4 cm.

Dimensions, dessert plate: 20 × 20 cm, height 2.8 cm.

Box: 2 boxes of 31 × 31 × 10 cm, approximately 7 kg in total.

Personalization: colors, first name, date or short message upon request; composition of choice upon request.

In case of breakage: individual replacement possible, same pattern and same dimensions, as long as the shape remains in the catalog.

In the same pattern: set of 2 glasses, glass carafe, box of 6 round plates, individual round plate, box of 6 square plates, coffee cup, speckled mug.

To make Bogolan dialogue with your table, write to us: we can adapt the colors, add a first name, a date or a short message.

Our plates have been used every day by families for over two years and go through the dishwasher and microwave daily: to date, we have observed no visible wear of the design, including contact with cutlery.

📏 The dimensions of our square plates

🎁 For gifting: the prestige box

For a wedding, a birthday or a gift that makes an impression, your set can be presented in our prestige box: a rigid deep green box with a magnetic closure, golden KEMI HOME ART logo, yellow interior and foam padding that holds each piece. Optional, upon request: €10 supplement. Simply specify it in your order or write to us.

Product information – Manufacturer: KEMI HOME ART SAS, 9 rue Pierre Leroux, 94140 Alfortville, France – edo@kemiha.fr.
