The KHA Artist pattern: an original creation blending textiles and contemporary African art
All our patterns tell the story of a fabric, a people, or a tradition. All but one. The Artiste KHA pattern is not a reinterpretation of any existing cloth: it is an original creation, designed for the table by the designer at KEMI HOME ART. A unique piece in our collection, for those who love contemporary African art.
The Artiste KHA pattern in brief
- Origin: an original creation by the KEMI HOME ART studio.
- Colors: indigo blue, navy blue, powder pink, and touches of red.
- Two faces: an imaginary fabric on the large plates, an abstract composition on the dessert plates.
- Spirit: between textile and painting.
A fabric that does not exist
On the large plates, a band or a wide border of textile patterns crosses the porcelain. We think we recognize a woven or dyed fabric, with its rhythms and repetitions, and yet this fabric exists nowhere: it was born on the drawing board. The indigo blue recalls the great dyed fabrics of West Africa, such as the Yoruba adire or the Cameroonian ndop, while the powder pink gives it a thoroughly contemporary softness.
A multifaceted painting
On the dessert plates, the design changes register. Geometric shards in navy blue, indigo, pink, and red come together in an abstract composition. Everyone sees what they want: a mask, a face, a city seen from above, a stained-glass window. This way of breaking down shapes into facets echoes a very ancient dialogue between Africa and modern art: at the beginning of the 20th century, it was precisely African masks that inspired Picasso and the Cubists.
Why an original creation?
Paying tribute to the great fabrics of Africa is at the heart of our work. But African art is not only heritage: it is also living, inventive, and forward-looking. With Artiste KHA, we wanted to show that the table can welcome a new work, which copies nothing and freely dialogues with traditions.
What the Artiste KHA pattern says

Our Artiste KHA pattern
The pattern exists in two layouts on our square plate sets: as a band or a border. Each pattern is prepared in our workshop in Alfortville, then applied and glazed by hand before firing, made to order.
All our pieces are customizable: colors, first name, date, or message. Write to us.
