Set of 6 square plates, Adire pattern, indigo blue and black colors
The deep blue of indigo, a color of prestige.
A vertical plum and indigo blue band crosses the square plate, illuminated by sky-blue and white radiating circles, like suns appearing on a tied and then dyed fabric. This is our tribute to the iconic "Indigo" fabric, a reinterpretation we have named "Adire" ("Adire" means "tie and dye" in Yoruba (Nigeria): it is the name of fabrics dyed in indigo using a resist technique).
💙 The story of the pattern
In Abeokuta, Nigeria, Yoruba women turned adire into an art: the fabric is tied, folded, or protected with cassava paste, then dipped in indigo, and white suns appear where the dye did not take.
- Adire (Nigeria, Yoruba): "tie and dye": fabrics dyed in indigo, whose patterns arise from the tied or protected parts.
✨ What the pattern tells
The deep blue of indigo is associated with prestige. The pattern also carries the know-how passed down from mother to daughter; to offer it is to make room for this memory at the table.
Our reinterpretation
On the square plate, the vertical plum and indigo blue band crosses the surface; the sky-blue and white radiating circles reprise the idea of the suns of the tied and then dyed fabric. Each plate is decorated to order in our workshop in Alfortville, pattern prepared, applied and glazed by hand before firing. The 31 × 31 × 10 cm box, approximately 3.5 kg, accompanies the set.
At your table
In the soft light of a summer dinner, a raw linen tablecloth, a few low candles and guests passing plates around allow the indigo blue and light circles to breathe. As a gift, this box is passed down as know-how from mother to daughter, around a table where the deep blue becomes a sign of prestige.
