Set of 6 square plates, Adire pattern – Indigo, indigo color
Set of 6 square plates, Adire pattern – Indigo, indigo color
White suns appear where the dye has not taken.
A wide plum and indigo blue border, with the reflections of dyed fabric, surrounds each square plate; at the bottom of the deep plate, a midnight blue geometric symbol is set within a diamond shape. This set is our tribute to the iconic "Indigo" fabric, a reinterpretation we have named "Adire". "Adire" means "tie and dye" in Yoruba (Nigeria): it is the name of fabrics dyed in indigo using a resist technique.
💙 The story of the pattern
In Abeokuta, Nigeria, Yoruba women turned adire into an art form: the fabric is tied, folded, or protected with a cassava paste, then dipped in indigo, and white suns appear where the dye has not taken.
- Adire (Nigeria, Yoruba): "tie and dye"; indigo-dyed fabrics whose patterns emerge from the tied or protected areas.
✨ What the pattern tells
The deep blue of indigo is a color of prestige. The pattern also embodies the idea of craftsmanship passed down from mother to daughter. It is given as a gift to celebrate this transmission and the place of indigo blue in a family history.
Our reinterpretation
On the square plates, the wide plum and indigo blue border echoes the reflections of dyed fabric; at the bottom of the deep plate, the midnight blue geometric symbol is set within a diamond shape. Each piece is decorated to order in our workshop in Alfortville: the pattern is prepared, applied, and glazed by hand before firing. The set is presented in a 31 × 31 × 10 cm packaging box, weighing approximately 3.5 kg.
