Set of 6 square plates, Bogolan pattern, burgundy and ochre colors

Bogolan, a Malian cotton fabric dyed with fermented mud, whose geometric patterns tell ancestral stories.

On these six square plates, a wide border of burgundy, ochre, and rust diamonds and triangles surrounds a white center; the palette also includes yellow. At the bottom of the soup plate, a rhinoceros carries a silhouette filled with the pattern. This tableware is our tribute to the iconic Bogolan fabric.

🟫 The history of the pattern

Bogolan is a traditional Malian cotton fabric, dyed with fermented mud, whose geometric patterns tell ancestral stories. Each region has its own style, from the Dogon country to Ségou.

• Bogolan (Mali, Bambara): also known as bògòlanfini.

✨ What the pattern tells

A fabric that has become a symbol of Malian cultural identity. Tradition says it protects by absorbing the dangerous forces released during childbirth.

Our interpretation

On this piece, the wide border captures the Bogolan atmosphere and leaves a white center; the rhinoceros at the bottom of the soup plate carries a silhouette filled with the pattern. Our silhouette concept embeds a wax fabric from the catalog into the shadow of an animal: the border retains its atmosphere, the silhouette adds a figurative touch, with an animal for a child, an astrological sign, or an animal for each family member. The pieces are decorated to order in our Alfortville workshop: the pattern is prepared, applied, and glazed by hand before firing. The packaging box measures 31 × 31 × 10 cm and weighs approximately 3.5 kg.

At your table

At your table, a soft light, a textured tablecloth, and a few guests bring burgundy, ochre, and rust into conversation, at lunch as well as dinner. As a gift, the piece joins the symbolism of Bogolan, a symbol of Malian cultural identity.
