Set of 6 oval plates, Adire pattern – Indigo
The deep blue of indigo, a color of prestige.
On the oval plates, a ring of small white suns and geometric patterns runs along the edge against an indigo blue and midnight blue background, while the center remains white. We thus pay tribute to the iconic "Indigo" fabric, a reinterpretation we have named "Adire" ("Adire" means "tie and dye" in Yoruba (Nigeria): it is the name of fabrics dyed in indigo using a resist method).
💙 The story of the pattern
In Abeokuta, Nigeria, Yoruba women have made adire an art form: the fabric is tied, folded, or protected with cassava paste, then dipped in indigo, and white suns appear where the dye has not taken.
- Adire (Nigeria, Yoruba): "tie and dye": fabrics dyed in indigo, whose patterns emerge from the tied or protected areas.
✨ What the pattern tells
The deep blue of indigo is a color of prestige. The pattern also embodies the idea of expertise passed down from mother to daughter, a thoughtful gift for those to whom you wish to pass something on.
Our reinterpretation
On the oval plates, the ring of small white suns and geometric patterns unfolds along the edge against an indigo blue and midnight blue background, with a white center; on the deep plate, a band highlights the rim. The plates are decorated to order in our Alfortville workshop, with the pattern prepared, applied, and glazed by hand before firing. They are presented in a box.
At your table
In the soft light of a weekend morning or a dinner among loved ones, a light linen tablecloth brings out the deep blues and white of the plates. As a gift, this box evokes expertise passed down from mother to daughter, perfect for accompanying a moment of sharing.
