Set of 6 oval plates, “My Rival’s Eye” wax print

“The eyes see, the mouth does not speak”: that is the proverb recalled by this fabric, which is also called My Co-Wife’s Eye.

On the oval rim, a ring of black and olive-green waves is enhanced by yellow threads and a few orange and blue eyes, creating an optical play along the curve of the plates. At the bottom of the deep plates, a giraffe wears a dress made of the pattern. Here is our tribute to the iconic “My Rival’s Eye” fabric.

👁️ One pattern, a thousand names

A wide-open eye, surrounded by circles and wavy threads: this fabric speaks of romantic rivalries with humor, through its message. In popular West African French, the proverb “The eyes see, the mouth does not speak” accompanies it. In the world of wax fabric, market women and wearers give the fabrics their names.

• My Rival’s Eye (French-speaking West Africa, French): worn by a woman determined not to share her husband.
• My Co-Wife’s Eye (French-speaking West Africa, French): the proverb “The eyes see, the mouth does not speak,” discretion and patience.

✨ What the pattern tells

Vigilance and a watchful eye, with a mischievous message: we see everything, but we say nothing. A nod to discretion and patience.

Our reinterpretation

On the rim of the plates, a ring of black and olive-green waves, punctuated with yellow, orange, and blue; at the bottom of the deep plates, the giraffe takes up the dress. Our silhouette concept embeds wax fabric into the shadow of an animal: here the giraffe, or a different animal for each family member. Each piece is decorated to order in our Alfortville workshop, with the pattern prepared, applied, and glazed by hand before firing. Packaging box: 31 × 31 × 10 cm.
