Set of 6 round plates, Adire pattern – Indigo, indigo blue color
Set of 6 round plates, Adire pattern – Indigo, indigo blue color
“Adire” means “tie and dye” in Yoruba (Nigeria): patterns emerge where the dye does not take.
Indigo blue, royal blue and white: a wide indigo blue ring, marbled with white circles like resist-dyed fabric, frames the white center; at the bottom of the deep plates, the blue and white circles cover the entire surface. This set of 6 round plates is our tribute to the iconic “Indigo” fabric, a reinterpretation we have named “Adire”. “Adire” means “tie and dye” in Yoruba (Nigeria): it is the name of indigo resist-dyed fabrics.
💙 The history of the pattern
In Abeokuta, Nigeria, Yoruba women have made adire an art: the fabric is tied, folded or protected with cassava paste, then dipped in indigo, and white suns appear where the dye does not take.
- Adire (Nigeria (Yoruba)): “tie and dye”: indigo-dyed fabrics whose patterns emerge from the tied or protected parts.
✨ What the pattern tells
The deep blue of indigo is a color of prestige. The pattern also carries a legacy passed down from mother to daughter.
Our reinterpretation
The indigo blue ring marbled with white circles frames the white center; at the bottom of the deep plates, the blue and white circles cover the surface. The indigo blue, royal blue and white colors make up this version. The packaging box measures 31 × 31 × 10 cm and weighs approximately 3.5 kg. Decorated to order in our Alfortville workshop, the plates receive a pattern prepared in our workshop, then applied and glazed by hand before firing.
At your table
In the soft morning light or at an intimate dinner, indigo blue complements a light linen tablecloth and simple materials. As a gift, this set evokes the color of prestige and the legacy passed down from mother to daughter, to be given to mark a moment of sharing.
