Set of 6 round plates, Bogolan pattern, brick red and brown colors

Bogolan, a Malian cotton fabric dyed with fermented mud, whose geometric signs tell ancestral stories.

On each round plate, a fine border of small brick-red and black motifs highlights the edge; in the center, a walking lion whose body is filled with brick-red, black, and cream geometric patterns. The brick-red, brown, black, and cream colors give the whole its presence. We pay tribute to the iconic "Bogolan" fabric by making this graphic rhythm dialogue with the roundness of porcelain.

🫫 The history of the pattern

Bogolan is a traditional Malian cotton fabric, dyed with fermented mud, whose geometric signs tell ancestral stories. Each region has its style, from the Dogon country to Ségou.

• Bogolan (Mali, Bambara): also called bògòlanfini.

✨ What the pattern tells

Bogolan has become a symbol of Malian cultural identity. A custom evokes its ability to absorb the dangerous forces released during a birth. As a gift, this reference to birth and cultural identity gives a very special meaning to the box offered.

Our reinterpretation

The fine border of the edge extends the atmosphere of the fabric, while the walking lion in the center is filled with brick-red, black, and cream geometric patterns. Our concept of silhouettes consists of embedding any wax fabric from the catalog in the shadow of an animal: the border pattern keeps its atmosphere and the silhouette brings a figurative touch, to choose a child's favorite animal, an astrological sign or a different animal for each family member. The plates are decorated to order in our workshop in Alfortville, pattern prepared, placed and glazed by hand before firing, and presented in a box of 31 × 31 × 10 cm.

At your table

At your table, imagine a soft light, a natural material tablecloth and a moment shared around guests attentive to the patterns. As a gift, the Bogolan reference to Malian cultural identity and birth can accompany a stage of life.
