In Benin, it is called “Gamaphone”: it is the word for gramophone, pronounced in the Fon style, without the R.

On each round plate, a large disc of brown and mustard yellow dots with a burgundy center rests on a veil of powder pink and peach circles. We pay tribute to the iconic “Gramophone” fabric with our reinterpretation called “Gamaphone”: it is the name given to our version, the way “gramophone” is pronounced in Fon (Benin), where the R is not pronounced.

🎶 One pattern, a thousand names

Discs of small dots arranged in concentric circles, like the grooves of a vinyl record: this pagne evokes the gramophone, the king of parties of yesteryear. In the world of wax fabric, it is the market women and those who wear the fabrics who give the patterns their names.

✨ What the pattern tells

The symbolism of the pattern is that of music, celebration, and the atmosphere of evenings where records spin. Its joyful and rhythmic circles seem to vibrate. It is perfect for sharing this atmosphere of music and celebration.

Our reinterpretation

On these plates, the large central disc features the brown and mustard yellow dots with a burgundy center, while the veil of powder pink and peach circles covers the entire porcelain. Mustard yellow, orange, brown, burgundy, powder pink, and white make up the design. These plates are decorated to order in our Alfortville workshop, with the pattern prepared, applied, and glazed by hand before firing. The packaging box measures 31 × 31 × 10 cm and weighs approximately 3.5 kg.
