Set of 6 round plates, Ludo Kouin wax print – The Dice Game

Play, luck, and games shared with family.

On the porcelain, a wide aubergine and white checkerboard ring, slightly in perspective like a flowing fabric, frames a white center; at the bottom of the deep plates, the checkerboard covers the entire surface. We pay tribute to the iconic "Jeu de dés" fabric with our reinterpretation named "Ludo Kouin": "Ludo kouin" means "game of dice" in Fon (Benin).

🎲 One pattern, a thousand names

A checkerboard that undulates like a game board: the pagne pays tribute to Ludo, a dice game born in India in the 19th century and played by two to four players, the equivalent of our little horses. In the world of wax, it is the market women and those who wear the fabrics that give them their names.

• Ludo kouin (Benin, Fon): the game of dice: a nod to Ludo, a cousin of little horses.

✨ What the pattern tells

The pattern tells of play, luck, and games shared with family. It evokes the moments when we come together to play. It is a piece to give as a gift to accompany these games and the luck that accompanies them.

Our reinterpretation

On this piece, the wide aubergine and white checkerboard ring, slightly in perspective like a flowing fabric, frames the white center; at the bottom of the deep plates, the checkerboard covers the entire surface. Each piece is decorated to order in our workshop in Alfortville, pattern prepared, applied and glazed by hand before firing. The 31 × 31 × 10 cm box accompanies the set.

At your table

In the soft light of a family dinner, on a plain tablecloth that lets the checkerboard breathe, the plates bring young and old together around a game table. To give to those who love shared games and moments of luck with family.
