Breakfast set, Adire pattern – Indigo

White suns are born where the dye has not taken.

On the white square plate, a plum and indigo frame creates a setting; on the cup and mug, large sky-blue suns seem to bloom on dyed fabric. This set is our tribute to the iconic "Indigo" fabric, a reinterpretation we have named "Adire". "Adire" means "tie and dye" in Yoruba (Nigeria): it is the name of fabrics dyed in indigo using a resist method.

💙 The history of the pattern

In Abeokuta, Nigeria, Yoruba women have made adire an art: the fabric is tied, folded, or protected with cassava paste, then dipped in indigo, and white suns appear where the dye has not taken.

• Adire (Nigeria, Yoruba): "tie and dye": fabrics dyed in indigo, whose patterns emerge from the tied or protected parts.

✨ What the pattern tells

The deep blue of indigo is a color of prestige. The pattern also carries the memory of a craftsmanship passed down from mother to daughter. It is a set to give as a gift to keep this transmission alive, with the delicacy of a pattern that is itself passed down.

Our reinterpretation

The pattern moves from fabric to porcelain: a plum and indigo frame around the square plate, large sky-blue suns on the cup and mug, on a white background. Each set is decorated to order in our workshop in Alfortville, the pattern prepared, applied and glazed by hand before firing. The packaging box brings the pieces together.

At the time when the light is still soft, a light linen tablecloth and the pieces set out for loved ones are enough to create a calm moment. Giving this set means passing on a craftsmanship from mother to daughter and the prestige of indigo blue.
