On the dessert plate and saucer, a ring of royal blue and sky blue stripes is punctuated by black and white diamonds; on the mug, a checkerboard of woven blue and brown bands unfolds on the outside. The coffee cup completes this porcelain set, where the white allows the patterns to breathe. This breakfast set is our tribute to the iconic "Kanta and Kounta" fabric.

▤ The history of the pattern

In Niger, these narrow bands, woven and sewn edge to edge, bear notches and checkerboards that tell the story of great ceremonies.

• Kanta (Niger, Djerma): a pattern intended for the newlywed during wedding ceremonies.
• Kounta (Niger, Hausa): a different pattern, used as a rug or wall covering.

✨ What the pattern tells

The major stages of life, and marriage above all, give the pattern its symbolic meaning. It is part of the ceremonies that mark these transitions. It is particularly suitable for a wedding.

Our reinterpretation

On this piece, the pattern leaves the woven band to become a ring of royal blue and sky blue stripes, punctuated by black and white diamonds on the round plate and saucer. The mug features a checkerboard of woven blue and brown bands, echoing the seams of the fabric. Each piece is decorated to order in our Alfortville workshop: the pattern is prepared, applied and glazed by hand before firing. The set brings together the plate, the coffee cup with saucer and the mug.

On a light linen tablecloth, in the morning light, the set takes its place for a breakfast for two or with the family. For a wedding or a life milestone to celebrate, it becomes a gift idea linked to the bonds you wish to honor.
