Breakfast set, Sénoufo motif

An art linked to agricultural and initiatory rites.

Aubergine and black bands striped with white cross the large speckled bowl as an inner band and medallion; on the mug and coffee cup, they form a checkerboard. The palette brings together aubergine, black, white, yellow, and red. This breakfast set is our tribute to the iconic "Senufo" art.

▦ The history of the motif

Senufo art, from Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, and Burkina Faso, is renowned for its powerful geometric shapes, linked to agricultural and initiatory rites.

• Senufo (Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso): a people renowned for their masks, statues, and textiles.

✨ What the motif tells

The symbolism of the Senufo motif is linked to agricultural and initiatory rites. It is associated with an art of powerful geometric shapes. To give this piece is to link it to this symbolism.

Our reinterpretation

The motif moves from Senufo art to this piece through an inner band and a medallion in the large speckled bowl, while the mug and coffee cup receive a checkerboard of bands. The colors on the product sheet are aubergine, black, white, yellow, and red. Each piece is decorated to order in our workshop in Alfortville, with the motif prepared, applied, and glazed by hand before firing. The pieces are gathered in a box.

At your table

At the time when the light is still soft, a light linen tablecloth and a few guests around a breakfast bring the checkerboard of the motif to life. As a gift, this piece links the recipient to an art associated with agricultural and initiatory rites.
