Set of 12 square plates, Baoulé pattern

Baoulé art seeks harmony and fine detail.

On the large square plates, a vertical woven band displays indigo blue and purple, bordered in yellow and punctuated with white diamonds. In the center of the dessert plates, an elephant takes shape in this same weave. This collection is our tribute to the iconic "Baoulé" art.

🐘 The story of the motif

Baoulé art, from Côte d'Ivoire, seeks harmony and fine detail; its portrait masks honor a real person.

• Baoulé (Côte d'Ivoire): a people whose art seeks harmony and fine detail.

✨ What the motif tells

Baoulé symbolism speaks of harmony and refinement. The elephant, emblem of Côte d'Ivoire, adds strength and wisdom. For a gift, these themes invite you to offer this collection that brings these values to the table.

Our interpretation

On the large plates, the vertical woven band features indigo blue, purple, and yellow, with white diamonds; on the dessert plates, the central elephant is composed of this same weave. The palette combines indigo blue, purple, yellow, red, and white. Our concept for the silhouettes consists of embedding wax fabric into the shadow of an animal: here, the elephant in the center of the dessert plates preserves the mood of the motif on the rim and adds a figurative touch. The plates are decorated to order in our Alfortville workshop, with the motif prepared, applied, and glazed by hand before firing. The collection is divided into two 31 × 31 × 10 cm packaging boxes.

At your table

In the soft evening light, on a natural linen tablecloth, these square plates bring guests together around a table where harmony is seen in the details. To give for the values of strength and wisdom carried by the elephant, or to share the harmony of the Baoulé motif.
