Set of 12 square plates, Bogolan pattern

A Malian cotton fabric whose geometric signs tell ancestral stories.

A vertical band runs across each plate: coral red, mustard yellow, black and grey stripes, punctuated by small white geometric signs, like a woven pagne. The square shape structures the design and lets the porcelain breathe. This piece is our tribute to the iconic "Bogolan" fabric.

Bogolan is a traditional Malian cotton fabric, dyed with fermented mud, whose geometric signs tell ancestral stories.

✨ What the pattern tells

Bogolan has become a symbol of Malian cultural identity. A custom says that it protects by absorbing the dangerous forces released during a birth. This story gives it a special place in a birth gift or a meaningful present.

Our reinterpretation

On these plates, the vertical band takes up the rhythm of the fabric: the coral red, mustard yellow, black and grey stripes cross the plate and the small white signs punctuate the design. The plates are decorated to order in our workshop in Alfortville: the pattern is prepared, then applied and glazed by hand before firing. The set is presented in 2 boxes of 31 × 31 × 10 cm.

In the soft light of a dinner, on a natural linen tablecloth, the vertical band brings a graphic rhythm to the table and brings guests together around a pattern that is as much to look at as it is to share. For a birth gift or a meaningful present, Bogolan evokes Malian cultural identity and the custom related to birth.
