In West Africa, this floral fabric is given to newlyweds: it symbolizes happiness.

On a pearl-grey background, olive-green, sunshine-yellow, and white flowers open their petals, finely lined with black. The design is framed on the large square plates and appears as an all-over pattern on the dessert plates. It is our tribute to the iconic "Fleurs de Mariage" fabric.

🌺 One pattern, a thousand names

Designed in the late 1970s, this bouquet of hibiscus flowers with finely lined petals became a beloved and widely copied wax fabric. In the world of wax fabric, it is the market women and those who wear the fabrics who give the patterns their names.

• Fleurs de Mariage (French-speaking West Africa): the fabric given to newlyweds.
• Hibiscus (West Africa, in French): a similar pattern worn by the bride's single friends, who humorously show that they too are looking for a suitor.

✨ What the pattern tells us

This pattern evokes the happiness of the couple and the promise of a happy home. It is a festive fabric, given as a gift and worn around a wedding.

Our interpretation

The floral frame adorns the large plates, while the all-over pattern covers the dessert plates; the olive-green, sunshine-yellow, white, pearl-grey, and black colors create a variation faithful to the spirit of the fabric. Each set is decorated to order in our Alfortville workshop, with the pattern prepared, applied, and hand-glazed before firing. The set is presented in two 31 × 31 × 10 cm boxes.

In the soft light of early evening, on a natural linen tablecloth, these square plates create a festive table. As a gift, the set accompanies newlyweds, echoing the happiness of the couple told by the pattern.
