Set of 12 square plates, Ludo Kouin wax pattern – The Dice Game

A checkerboard pattern that undulates like a game board.

On the porcelain, a band of aubergine and white checkerboard, with slightly wavy squares, crosses the square plate diagonally. This piece is our tribute to the iconic "Jeu de dés" fabric, a reinterpretation we have named "Ludo Kouin"; "Ludo kouin" means "game of dice" in Fon (Benin).

🎲 One pattern, a thousand names

The fabric pays tribute to ludo, a dice game born in India in the 19th century and played by two to four players, the equivalent of our little horses; its checkerboard undulates like a game board. In the world of wax, it is the market women and those who wear the fabrics who give their names to the patterns.

• Ludo kouin (Benin, Fon): the game of dice, a nod to ludo, cousin of little horses.

✨ What the pattern tells

The symbolism of the pattern lies in the game, luck, and games shared with family. It evokes those moments when we gather around a table to play together. As a gift, it retains this nod to the conviviality of shared games.

Our reinterpretation

On this piece, the band of aubergine and white checkerboard crosses the square plate diagonally, with slightly wavy squares. The whole is presented in two packaging boxes. The pieces are decorated to order in our workshop in Alfortville, pattern prepared, placed and enameled by hand before firing.

At your table

At your table, the aubergine and white band brings a checkerboard rhythm under a soft light, with a plain tablecloth or a raw material to let the pattern breathe. As a gift, the set evokes luck and games shared with family, like an invitation to gather around the table.
