Large rectangular platter, Azin Tchro wax print – Peanuts

In Benin, in Goun, it is called “Azin tchro”: peanut shells.

On this large rectangular platter, a frame of stylized, interlocking peanut shells unfolds in brown, rust, and ochre, like basketwork, around a wide white center. The palette also includes mauve, along with the white of the center. We pay tribute to the iconic “Peanuts” fabric with a reinterpretation we have named “Azin Tchro”; in Goun (Benin), “Azin tchro” means “peanut shells”.

Stylized peanut shells, aligned and interlocking like in a woven basket: this pagne belongs to the large family of wax prints inspired by the table and harvests. In the world of wax, it is the market women and those who wear the fabrics that give them their names.

✨ What the motif tells

Peanuts are a staple crop in West Africa, shared at the table and in the markets. This motif belongs to the “at the table!” pagne family, which celebrates what we grow and what we share. It thus accompanies moments of conviviality and gifts that express the pleasure of coming together.

Our reinterpretation

The motif does not cover the piece: it forms a frame all around the platter and lets the white center breathe, with interlocking peanut shells in brown, rust, and ochre. The palette also combines mauve with white. Each platter is decorated to order in our workshop in Alfortville, motif prepared, placed, and glazed by hand before firing.
