🌺 One pattern, a thousand names

Designed in the late 1970s, this bouquet of hibiscus flowers with finely veined petals became one of the most beloved and copied wax print fabrics. In the world of wax prints, market women and those who wear the fabrics give these patterns their names.

• Fleurs de Mariage (French-speaking West Africa): the fabric given to engaged couples.
• Hibiscus (West Africa, in French): a similar pattern worn by the bride's single friends, who humorously show that they too are looking for a suitor.

Our reinterpretation

On this mug, the pattern moves from the fabric to the inside: the outside remains white and pebbled, with a textured finish, while the magenta red, pink, sunshine yellow, and anise green flowers line the interior and reveal themselves with every sip. This mug is decorated to order in our Alfortville workshop: the pattern is prepared, applied, and glazed by hand before firing.
