Coffee cup and saucer, Senufo pattern, indigo blue color
Coffee cup and saucer, Senufo pattern, indigo blue color
Sénoufo, an art of powerful geometric forms.
The cup features a checkerboard of eggplant and black bands striped with white; the saucer echoes this with a ring. The set reads as a graphic variation on the Sénoufo motif, between the cup and its saucer. Our piece is a tribute to this iconic Sénoufo art.
▦ The history of the motif
Sénoufo art, from Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, and Burkina Faso, is renowned for its powerful geometric forms, linked to agricultural and initiatory rites.
- Sénoufo (Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso): a people renowned for their masks, statues, and textiles
✨ What the motif tells
The Sénoufo motif is linked to agricultural and initiatory rites. It brings this ceremonial dimension to the cup and its saucer. Giving this piece means choosing a motif that evokes these rites.
Our reinterpretation
The checkerboard of eggplant and black bands striped with white adorns the cup, while the saucer echoes the motif in a ring. The colors eggplant, black, white, yellow, and red make up the color palette of the piece. Decorated to order in our Alfortville workshop, the motif is prepared, applied, and glazed by hand before firing.
At your table
At coffee time, on a light linen tablecloth or a wooden table, the cup brings a geometric rhythm to shared breaks. A gift for someone who loves objects imbued with history, echoing the agricultural and initiatory rites of the Sénoufo motif.
