👑 The history of Toghu
Toghu is the traditional attire of the Grassfields in North-West Cameroon, around Bamenda: black velvet embroidered with yellow, orange, red and white threads. Once reserved for kings and dignitaries, it has become Cameroon's ceremonial attire at major international events. Its exact origin remains uncertain; some sources associate it with the 19th century and the Bamoun kingdom.

✨ What the pattern tells
Toghu evokes the rank, dignity and pride of the peoples of the Grassfields in North-West Cameroon; once reserved for kings, chiefs and dignitaries. Today, it is a symbol of Cameroonian identity and unity. It can be found at weddings, celebrations and major international ceremonies.
Our interpretation
On the porcelain, black covers the entire cup; orange crosses, ochre rings and white touches recreate the textile design, while the braided ring on the saucer extends the adornment. The cup and saucer are decorated to order in our Alfortville workshop: the pattern is prepared, applied and glazed by hand before firing.

The decoration is applied and fixed by firing using the same process as our plates, which have been used daily by families for over two years and put through the dishwasher and microwave every day, with no visible wear to the decoration observed to date.
