Coffee cup and saucer, Azin Tchro wax print – Peanuts

In Benin, in Goun, it is called “Azin tchro”: peanut shells.

On the cup, stylized black and ochre peanut shells outlined in yellow crisscross against a pale lavender background that adorns the entire piece; the saucer echoes this with a woven ring. We pay tribute to the iconic “Arachides” fabric, a reinterpretation we have named “Azin Tchro” (“Azin tchro” means “peanut shells” in Goun, Benin). A 9 cl coffee cup and saucer to bring this pattern to the table.

🥜 One pattern, a thousand names

Stylized peanut shells, lined up and interwoven like a woven basket: this pagne belongs to the large family of wax prints inspired by the table and harvests. In the world of wax prints, it is the market women and those who wear the fabrics who give the patterns their names.

✨ What the pattern tells

Peanuts are a staple crop in West Africa, shared at the table and in the markets. This pattern belongs to the “à table!” family of pagnes, which celebrate what we grow and what we share.

Our reinterpretation

The design becomes an all-over pattern on the cup, while the saucer retains a woven ring; the black and ochre shells outlined in yellow stand out against the pale lavender. Each piece is decorated to order in our Alfortville workshop, with the pattern prepared, applied, and glazed by hand before firing.
