A very popular fabric, given as part of a bride price.
A saffron-yellow band with black swirls encircles the white cup, while the saucer features a ring of the same design. This coffee cup and saucer are our tribute to the iconic "Petits macaronis" fabric, a reinterpretation we have named "Kpévi". "Macaronis kpévi" means "little macaroni" in Fon (Benin).
✨ One pattern, a thousand names
The same design can go by several names. In the world of wax fabric, it is the market women and those who wear the fabrics who give them their names.
-
Macaronis kpévi (Benin, Fon): little macaroni.
-
Conseiller (Ivory Coast): a name associated with a fabric given as part of a bride price as a symbol of agreement.
✨ What the pattern tells
A very popular fabric, given as part of a bride price. The pattern represents the agreement and harmony of the home. It is thus given as part of a bride price, as a symbol of agreement.
Our reinterpretation
On this cup, the pattern becomes a saffron-yellow band with black swirls around the white of the porcelain; the saucer features a ring of the same design. This coffee cup and saucer are decorated to order in our workshop in Alfortville, with the pattern prepared, applied and glazed by hand before firing.
At your table
Imagine the soft light of late morning on a textured tablecloth, with a few cups gathered around your guests. To give as part of a bride price, as a symbol of agreement and harmony in the home.
