Bogolan Collection

In Mali, Bogolan is born from the earth: cotton woven in strips, dyed with leaves and then painted with fermented mud, leaving brown, black, and ochre marks on the light background. “Bogolan” comes from bambara and refers to what is made with the earth. Each region has its own style, from the Dogon country to Ségou.

A fabric that protects and tells a story

Bogolan has become a symbol of Malian cultural identity. Custom says that it protects by absorbing the dangerous forces released during childbirth; it was also worn for initiations and major life milestones. Its symbols—circles, parallel lines, diamonds, chevrons—form a visual language that can be read like a story.

Earthy tones that complement wood, linen, and soft light. Each piece is decorated to order in our Alfortville workshop: the pattern is prepared, applied, and glazed by hand before firing. Colors, first name, date, or short message: it can be personalized upon request, and a broken piece can be replaced individually.
