Collection: Cameroon Collection: Ndop and Toghu

Two ceremonial fabrics tell the story of Cameroon. The first is blue and white, the second black and embroidered with bright colors: both once adorned kings and dignitaries before becoming emblems of pride.

Ndop, a royal fabric

Ndop is a fabric of the Bamiléké and Bamoun peoples of western Cameroon, dyed indigo blue using a resist technique: the white patterns appear where the dye did not take. Traditionally reserved for chieftaincy ceremonies, it evokes the prestige and solemnity of important occasions.

Toghu, ceremonial attire

Around Bamenda, in the Grassfields of the North-West, Toghu is a black velvet embroidered with yellow, orange, red, and white threads: suns, stars, crosses, diamonds, braids. Once reserved for kings and dignitaries, it has become Cameroon's ceremonial attire, worn at weddings and major celebrations.
